About Us

Cameron Cunningham Limited is a firm of Chartered Accountants and specialist tax consultants providing the holistic tax advice required by a growing entrepreneurial company and its stakeholders.

We are experienced working with businesses of many sizes at different stages in their life cycle, ranging from start-ups through to mid cap companies quoted on AIM, where we provide specialist tax advice.

We work hard with our clients to help achieve the objectives of the stakeholders in the business which would normally be to enhance value and plan for a tax efficient exit at the appropriate time.

The founder, Declan Cunningham, was a tax partner at Ernst & Young in their Entrepreneurial Services Office in London until he left to establish his own practice in 2002.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Tax Adviser. Our staff are also professionally qualified and experienced.

Declan has been involved in the world of tax since 1975 and so he has a wide range of experience from large multinational companies to early stage, ‘start up’ technology companies.  He also has extensive international experience and advises on personal and corporate tax planning which, together with his wide business experience, allows us to provide practical advice on many topics.

Our principal focus is on providing cost effective solutions in the many differing circumstances our clients require support.  These include:

  • Raising funds including through the Enterprise Investment Scheme or from Venture Capital Trusts.  This reduces the costs and risk for the investor but has a number of sometimes complex hurdles which need to be resolved;
  • Providing expert advice and support for Research and Development Tax Credit Claims.  We have considerable experience in identifying the qualifying costs to make a successful claim and potentially reclaim tax credits from HMRC;
  • Corporate reorganisations, including demergers and repurchase of own shares;
  • Advice on how to minimise the tax liabilities arising in M&A activity.  We frequently work with law firms to provide support on taxation matters when agreements are being drafted;
  • Support on in-licensing transactions and exploitation of intellectual property generally;
  • Advising on employment related securities legislation to ensure shares and options are received without income tax liabilities where possible;
  • Advising on and implementing share option schemes to ensure these are as tax efficient as possible.  This includes consideration of options under the Enterprise Management Incentive Scheme;
  • Personal tax advice including that for non-UK domiciled individuals; and
  • General tax compliance including filing personal and corporate tax returns.
